Künstler Stielweg Alte Reben

Description

Our Riesling „Old vines“ grows on over 50-year old vines of
our top site Stielweg. The soil is quite heavy and consists of
loam and clay. Therefore the wine is very concentrated as well
as elegant and suitable for a long storage, up to 20 years in
excellent vintages.
The roots of the 52-year old grapevines of the Stielweg
penetrate deep into the soil where they absorb large amounts of
nutrients.

This yields a sustaining, highly aromatic Riesling. Despite the
enormous fruitiness with sweet aromas of ripe peaches or
apricots, this wine retains the delicate Riesling character with
its subtle elegance and minerality.

Weingut Künstler has been in family hands since 1648. For the majority of that time the family tended an estate in Untertannowitz, a town in the South Moravian region of the Czech Republic roughly 80 kilometers north of the Austrian capital of Vienna. Franz Künstler’s lands were seized in the aftermath of World War II and he was ultimately expelled from his family’s centuries-old homeland. In 1965 he re-established Weingut Künstler in Hochheim am Main, in Germany’s Rheingau region. The estate’s philosophy of uncompromising quality remained unchanged, and the wines soon garnered critical acclaim and awards. Son Gunter assumed leadership of the estate in 1992, continuing his father’s legacy side by side with wife Monika and a young, highly dedicated team. Weingut Künstler has been a member of the VDP, the Association of German Prädikat wine Estates, since 1994.
